GreatStrides Cary is a fundraiser sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis foundation. The Cary walk was established in 2001 by parent volunteers as a means to increase awareness of CF and raise funds to support current and future research, medications, and technology. Approximately 30,000 people suffer from this recessive genetic disorder.  CF affects many main systems of the body, with respiratory being the most significant.  Because of phenomenal research and fund raising, the mean age of survival is now mid to late 30’s.

In 2007, GreatStrides Cary doubled in size with over 500 people in attendance and over $100,000.00 raised.  Carolina Care and Counseling volunteered as members of team “Spencer's Spirit” and provided assistance with entertainment (dunking booth and blow-up slide), photography, as well as serving food.
